Outset activities are funded by its private patrons, trustees, and corporate partners. The fund uses its independent position to engage groups of cultural enthusiasts with the international creative community in new and renewed ways. By channelling philanthropic engagement in this way, Outset is capable of realising innovative projects and memorable events.
“Set up by Candida Gertler and Yana Peel, [Outset is] an example of the new philanthropy. They raise huge sums, and with it buy the contemporary art that many of our national museums cannot afford, and then give it to them. Philanthropy is going to be the big debate in the arts in the next 12 months - how can we encourage the new wealth to donate to our public institutions, can we create an American philanthropic culture in this country?”
Ed Vaizey, Shadow Minister for Culture
Annual members wishing to gain deeper interaction with key individuals and institutions deemed most innovative by Outset are invited to extend their commitment by becoming patrons of a select number of patron projects supported each year by the Fund. These initiatives offer unique opportunities for first-hand involvement in the development and realization of projects with leading artists and institutions.
In an advisory capacity, Outset facilitates bespoke programmes to bring corporates and other groups closer to contemporary visual art.
Some of the organisations advised by Outset include Landesbank Hessen Thueringen, McLaren Group, Laurent-Perrier, and John Jones.
